Sarah Mclachlan was born in 1968 in Halifax, Nova scotia. Aftr being adopted, she took vocal lessons and released her first solo album in 1988 after moving to British Columbia.
Sarah Mclachlan has been nominated for twenty one Juno Awards. Out of those twenty one, she was the recepient of 8. She has also one several grammy awards, and appeared on covers for multiple magazines including "Time" and the "Rolling Stone".

Mclachlan is a spokesperson for the ASPCA and appeared in several commercials speaking out again animal abuse. In her appeal for donations, she raised $30 million for the ASPCA since their airing. She also performed at benefits like ones for AIDS, tsunamis, and The Leonard Peltier Defence Fund. In 2005 she performed at the Live 8 concerts, which were held in nine major cities around the world simultaneously. They were to try and put pressure on country leaders to cancel debt in Africa. She also funds a program to provide inner city children with music education.
